Elections will be conducted in accordance with the Local Authorities Election Act and other applicable municipal bylaws and policies. 

January 2, 2025 – First Day of Nomination Period 

  • Note: Town Office will open beginning January 7th, 2025 to accept nomination papers.  
  • The nomination period runs from January 2, 2025 to September 22, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. 
  • Candidate information packages, including all necessary forms for submitting nomination papers, will be available below or at the Town Administration Office during office hours.
  • Candidates can file nomination papers anytime during the nomination period with the Returning Officer during office hours.

September 22, 2025 – Nomination Day 

  • Nomination papers must be filed by 12:00 p.m.

October 20, 2025 – Municipal Election Day

Eligible Candidates - Qualifications 

To become a candidate for any office in the Election, you must be: 

•    at least 18 years of age

•     a Canadian citizen

•    a resident of the Town of Wembley since March 22, 2025

•    not otherwise ineligible or disqualified

Notice of Intent

Section 147.22 of the Local Authorities Election Act requires an individual who intends to be nominated or has been nominated to run for election in a local jurisdiction as a candidate to give written notice to the local jurisdiction before accepting a campaign contribution or incurring a campaign expense.  

Please Note: A notice of intent is separate from nomination forms and must be submitted for anyone intending to run as a candidate in the election. Once a candidate has submitted their notice of intent they are added to the Register of Candidates and can accept campaign contributions and incur campaign expenses. To become a nominated candidate and appear on the ballot, the candidate must complete the nomination process.

Nomination Papers

Nomination Paper and Candidate's Acceptance Form (Form 4)

Candidate Financial Information Form (Form 5) All Running Candidate's Must be filled out.

Authorization for release of personal information (Form  TOW)

As per the Local Authorities Election Act, Part 1, Section 27, both Form 4 and Form 5 must be submitted together.
Physical, printed copies of forms 4 and 5 will be available at Town Office during the nomination period during office hours.

Campaign Disclosure Statement and Financial Statement (Form 26) All Running Candidate's Must be filed to avoid penalties. (Hand in to the Returning Officer: Noreen Zhang).

Voter Identification (Bylaw 671)

Voters will be required to register to vote in Municipal Elections as per proposed changes to the Local Authorities Election Act (Bill 20 – Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment Act, 2024).  The voters list will be provided to the County under a Data Sharing Agreement with Elections Alberta.

Voters are encouraged to register to vote by visiting Elections Alberta in advance of the election.
